In addition to the direct spending of UCR as a business, the presence of the University attracts students and visitors, and also anchors UCR retirees to the local area. Their presence in turn also supports the local, regional, and state economies.
UCR Students

In 2006-07, UCR served over 16,000 students (3-quarter average) on its main campus, close to 33,000 continuing education students, and nearly 2,800 international students.
Half of UCR students lived within the city of Riverside during the academic year, and 71% lived within the Inland Empire, (based on Fall 2006 enrollment data).
The economic impact of student spending was $230.6 million statewide, and $77 million - one third - was captured in the city of Riverside alone.
UCR's international students produced a spending impact of $23.2 million, and $2.5 million was generated by continuing education student spending.
In addition, UCR student spending generated $79.1 million in personal income and supported 2,302 full-time jobs in California.

Campus Visitors

In 2006-07, UCR welcomed over 160,000 visitors to its performances, athletic events, Commencement ceremonies, museums, University Extension conferences, Botanic Gardens, and many other events.
UCR visitor spending had an overall impact of $4.1 million, and also generated $1.5 in personal income and supported 64 full-time jobs across California.

UCR Retirees

As of June 2007, there were approximately 1,271 retired employees from UC Riverside, 82% of whom lived in the State of California.Of these California retirees, 79% lived within the Inland Empire.
Total annual payments to retirees in the Inland Empire region during the fiscal year were more than $36.5 million.
Total direct, indirect, and induced spending generated by payments received by UC Riverside retirees was over $38.2 million.
Direct retiree payments also supported 280 full-time jobs and generated nearly $41.0 million in personal income in California.
